One local giving person will be awarded the title "Acadiana's Local Hero".
Please read and understand all "Acadiana's Local Hero" rules and restrictions before nominating your hero.
Rules and Restrictions:
- 1. No purchase is necessary to enter.
Contest only open to Louisiana residents. By submitting an essay for consideration,
you agree to these rules and regulations. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.
Void where prohibited.
- 2. This contest may be discontinued at any time without notice.
This contest and the official rules and restrictions governing this contest may be changed at
any time without notice.
- 3. Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation) is a 501(c)(3)
tax-exempt Louisiana nonprofit corporation wholly owned by Robert E. Giles.
- 4. This contest is conducted by KLFY-TV and Acadiana Heroes
(A Nonprofit Corporation), whose decisions are final on all matters.

- 6. LANGUAGE: The Acadiana Local Hero Contest is conducted in English.
- 7. PRIZE: Monthly winner will receive $3,000.00. The prize is non-transferable.
- 8. ELIGIBILITY: Individuals must be eighteen (18) years old or older and be U.S.
residents domiciled in the Acadiana Region. For the purposes herein,
the Acadiana Region is defined as the parishes of Lafayette, Vermilion,
Acadia, St. Martin, Iberia, St. Landry and Evangeline.
- 9. NOMINATIONS: Friends, neighbors, and other Acadiana community members may nominate
individuals and organizations for consideration via written essay.
The essay should explain why the nominee deserves the title “Acadiana’s Local Hero” and the nominee’s contact information,
including email, phone number, and mailing address. Essays should not exceed 500 words.
Nominations must be received by the last day of each month.

- 11. SELECTION: KLFY and Robert E. Giles will select three (3) finalists each month
based on the information received. These finalists will be announced monthly on television.
- 12. WITHDRAWAL: If a nominee does not agree to the official rules of this contest or would like to withdraw
for any other reason, the nominee may contact Bob Giles at bgiles@cox.net to withdraw from the contest.
- 13. JUDGING: Between 5th day and 25th of each month to determine who will be selected as a finalist,
viewers may visit www.acadianahero.com to vote for the person or organization they think most deserves to be recognized
as Acadiana’s local hero for that month.
- 14. WINNER: The winner will be announced monthly on KLFY.
- 15. TIEBREAKER: In the event of a tie Bob Giles will decide the winner.
- 16. NOTIFICATION: Winner will be notified monthly by telephone, e-mail, or U.S. mail of the requisite procedure
to claim the prize. In the unlikely event KLFY-TV and Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation) are unable to contact the winner
within 10 days; the person with the second highest number of votes will be determined to be the winner.
KLFY-TV and Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation) are not responsible for errors, problems, or difficulties with printing,
U.S. mail, Internet, or telephone.
- 17. CLAIMING PRIZE: The winner must claim the prize within fourteen (14) days of notification of winning.
The prize must be picked up in person at the location designated by the notification.
The winner must show proof of identification, including Social Security number or nonprofit tax ID number
and must sign an Affidavit of Eligibility, a Liability Release, and a Publicity Release (the “Affidavit/Release”) to claim prize.
The winner is responsible for all taxes associated with the award, if any. If the potential winner fails to sign such documents
within the time allowed to claim the prize, of if a winner is found to be ineligible, or if a potential winner does not comply
with the Official Rules & Restriction, then the potential winner will be disqualified and the prize will revert to Acadiana Heroes
(A Nonprofit Corporation).
- 18. RELEASE OF LIABILITY: Entrants, nominees, and winners release Robert E. Giles, his heirs and assigns,
KLFY-TV, and Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation), and their respective parent companies, affiliates, partners, subsidiaries,
agents, representatives, sponsors, service agencies and independent contractors, and each of their respective directors, officers,
owners, partners, employees and agents, including advertising and promotion agencies, from any and all liability with respect to
promotion and participation in the Contest or in the acceptance, use and distribution of the prize(s) awarded.
- 19. PUBLICITY: Submission of an essay or acceptance of a prize is permission for KLFY-TV, and Acadiana Heroes
(A Nonprofit Corporation) to use the names, pictures, video images, and relevant quotes of all nominees and essay writers without
future consent or compensation, unless prohibited by law.
- 20. PRIVACY: By submitting an essay or by accepting the prize, nominees and entrants agree that their information
provided in connection with the contest entry may be used for communications promoting the Acadiana Local Hero contest and
future contests sponsored or conducted for the benefit of Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation).
Individuals and organizations may opt out of the receipt of future communications by following the directions in any email,
other communication, or by contacting Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation).
Other than as provided herein, personal information will not be shared with or sold to any other person, entity, or third party.
- 21. RESTRICTIONS: This contest is only open to Louisiana residents. Employees of KLFY-TV, Young Broadcasting,
Inc., competing television stations, cable and satellite companies, Giles Automotive, Inc., Z Best Cars, Inc.
and Automotive Leasing Specialists, Inc.’s employees and/or their immediate families are not eligible to be nominated as a hero.
Immediate family is defined as the spouse, parents, in-laws, grandparents, great-grandparents, brothers, sisters, children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the employee and/or his or her spouse.
This definition also includes individuals for whom an employee is the current legal guardian or individuals who are not
legally related to but who reside with the employee. “Step” relationships are also covered by this definition.
- 22. ODDS: The odds of winning are determined by the number of nominations received each month.

- 25. INTERNET: KLFY-TV and Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation) will pursue
all legal remedies against any individual(s) damaging or attempting to damage the websites
of KLFY-TV and/or Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation) or attempting to undermine
the lawful operation of the Acadiana Local Hero Contest.
- 26. INTERPRETATION: The decisions of KLFY-TV and Acadiana Heroes
(A Nonprofit Corporation) are final and binding with respect to any matter arising out of
the interpretation or application of these rules and restrictions.
- 27. ARBITRATION: In the event a dispute shall arise between the Recipient
and KLFY-TV, Robert E. Giles and/or Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation),
any controversy or claim arising out of or relating to the Acadiana Local Hero Contest
shall be settled by arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association
under its Commercial Arbitration Rules. The place of arbitration shall be in Lafayette Louisiana.
Judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator(s) may be entered in any court having
jurisdiction thereof.
- 28. FORCE MAJEURE: Neither Robert E. Giles, KLFY-TV or Acadiana Heroes
(A Nonprofit Corporation) shall be in default or otherwise liable for any delay in or
failure of its performance of the raffle if such delay or failure arises by any reason
beyond reasonable control, including any act of God, any acts of the common enemy,
the elements, earthquakes, riots, failures or delay in transportation or communications,
or any act or failure to act by the other party or such party’s employees,
agents, or contractors.
- 29. GOVERNING LAW: All disputes which may arise between a Recipient
on one hand and KLFY-TV, Robert E. Giles and/or Acadiana Heroes (A Nonprofit Corporation)
shall be governed by the laws and jurisdiction of the State of Louisiana.
