About our Acadiana Local Hero!

Why this finalist was deserving of Acadian's Local Hero.
My friend, Kim Dupre Bourgeois, lost her only son, Ryan Blake Dunn, on July 16, 2010. Through her grief, she has been helping other parents who have lost children, to deal with their own grief. She envisioned a walking park to honor her son's memory and to share with others, where they could go to meditate, reflect and pray. This place is called Pathways of Hope. She has accomplished so much in the last few months, the pond has been dug, the pathways have been paved and she is putting landscaping down as well. She has done all of this while holding a full time job. Her dedication is endless.

How Kim's efforts have made a difference in the community for the better.
She has helped so many parents deal with their own grief with group meetings and through prayer. Making herself always available for those in need of compassion. Sharing this place with others to deal with their grief is her goal.

How becoming Acadiana's Local Hero will further Kim's cause.
She has dedicated much of her own time and money in making her dream a reality. Her family and friends help as much as they can, but she also must rely on donations of money and labor to finish her Pathways of Hope project. I know she would put the award money to good use there.
