About our Acadiana Local Hero!

Why this finalist was deserving of Acadian's Local Hero.
Ms. Becky is a true living and breathing angel on earth. As a woman who has a biological family of her own, she also has many "dream families". Once a child and their family is met, she along with other members of DCT keep in touch with each family long after the "dream" is granted. Each and every one of them truly becomes "family" to her. She works out of her home, car, etc. whatever may be required as this job keeps her on the roads throughout Louisiana in order to see that each dream is granted to that very special child facing a life threatening illness. As hard as she tries to personally interview every dreamchild and family, sometimes it's just not possible and she enlists the help of other DCT members. The organization could not grant as many dreams as it does without the help of its members and countless volunteers but Ms. Becky truly is the HERO...just ask any dream child or their parent. I guarantee they will say she is a godsend...angel!

How Becky's efforts have made a difference in the community for the better.
Ms. Becky has made so many differences for the better in so many people's lives, I wouldn’t even know how to count them. One of the ways, is spearheading an annual Dreams Come True Clay Shoot. The annual clay shoot alone raises in excess of $70,000. This may sound like alot of money, but when you grant approx 50-65 dreams a year $70,000 goes quick. As soon as she finalizes one fundraiser, she's focusing on the next to ensure that DCT can continue allowing many dreams to come to life. She makes countless trips to hospitals to meet with child-life specialists/social workers about dream kids, visits St. Judes and coordinates different dream kid events throughout the year to give the kids those continued "special moments" in their life & make them feel special. Her acts of kindness are infectious and makes anyone who comes in to contact with her want to do more for others...she is an AMAZING human being with a heart as big as the world.

How becoming Acadiana's Local Hero will further Becky's cause.
Winning this award would help get the word out about Dreams Come True about how great this "mom & pop" organization is and how much good its doing right here in Louisiana. DCT (local non-profit charity) was founded in 1982 by seven families in Denham Springs, LA with a goal of providing dreams to local area children with life-threatening illnesses. While many worthwhile organizations work toward similar goals, Dreams Come True is proud to have one paid employee (which is Ms. Becky) and to have expanded throughout the entire State of Louisiana.
